Greetings,
Thank you for this opportunity to introduce ourselves.
We are members of a high school team of high-energy, ambitious students with a passion for science and technology. We recently formed the brand new, very exciting El Dorado Union High School District Robotics Team. Our team is currently composed of 44 students from Union Mine, El Dorado, Ponderosa and Oak Ridge High Schools. The team is open to all students in the district.
In a few months, our Robotics Team will be participating in the FIRST (For Inspiration of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC). Our team will be one of 1,700 teams nationwide competing for a spot in the FIRST Championship at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. (Please see enclosed DVD for information about the FIRST organization and FRC.)
FIRST robotic teams are guided through the robot design and build process by volunteer mechanical, electrical, and computer science engineers and college students. FRC high school teams enjoy a rare opportunity to work beside and become inspired by these generous and knowledgeable mentors. Dedicated volunteer mentors for our team currently include a manager, an aerospace engineer, two electronics engineers, a software programmer, a software architect, a project management consultant, and an assortment of skilled parents and community members available to help in multiple areas.
Our school district provides us a Robotics Lab and a computer lab at our host site, Union Mine High School, where we can meet for educational purposes and to build our robot. Our money is managed in a Student Body Account at Union Mine High School. Administration of all four schools throughout the district is very supportive of the team and the logistics involved in a district wide effort. We have access to machine shops, both private and at one of the high schools. We are in contact with other FIRST teams for guidance and are utilizing all FIRST resources available to us to make sure our project is sound and successful.
We’re approaching you for a partnership, sponsorship, or donation to help us reach our fundraising goal of $10,500 for this year’s competition. Our registration fees and kit of parts costs $5,500 and must be paid to FIRST by December 1, 2009. The remaining funds cover additions to the robot, spare parts, shipping crate expenses, test field expenses, team t-shirts, team banner, and any tools we have not yet received by donation.
We are hoping you will take the time to view the enclosed DVD. The video clips will show you the competition and give you a much better idea of what we are about, what FIRST is about, and of the amazing, contagious effort we are proposing that you join. You can also check out our websites online at www.usfirst.org, and www.ehuhsdroboticsteam.org.
It is our intention to compete in the spirit of FIRST: having the hardest fun ever, engaging in tough competition, while constantly maintaining and practicing gracious professionalism. (DVD)
